The other day at work, I was getting some prints from the machine, and then it happened. A bloody paper cut. ON! MY!! FINGER!!! Stinging, making my eyes water, barely visible to the eye, but yet causing me to bleed faster than I could say “ouch”…I work in a construction site and the first thought that came to my mind was, “off all the things that could happen, it had to be a paper cut sending me to the clinic for a band-aid”. There goes my street-cred…
…and then it occurred to me. I WAS on a construction site with heavy machinery, sharp objects, blunt heavy objects, basically, risks at every turn. Off all the things that could happen, the paper cut was probably the best case scenario.
In that moment, it really felt like the worst pain, but now I can’t even tell which finger (or hand really), that it happened to.
The thing that is hurting you now, yes it hurts, but of all the things that could happen, it’s probably the best. Yes, you’ll survive it, and soon it’ll be nothing more than a distant memory.
