Hope, even in the deepest, darkest valley

"Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me." - Psalm 23:4 (NLT)

I like that this verse says through the darkest valley. To me, it means that there’s always hope of finding our way back, with God as our personal guide/bodyguard/companion.

For the most part, no one goes into a deep dark valley on purpose. We end up there accidentally after foregoing our ‘GPS’ and making turns on our own because we thought we knew the way. So now, here we are in this darkest valley and guess what? Our ‘GPS’ (God) is here with us too.

He did not/will not leave us to suffer the consequences of our mistakes alone, or banish us to dwell in the dark place forever. He’s there. And when we let go of our pride/ego/self and turn back to Him, admitting that this isn’t where we’d hoped to be, He takes us by the hand and walks us through and out of the darkness.

Notice that He doesn’t say magic words that will teleport us out of there immediately – actions have consequences – and though it may be scary and we see/sense fearful things in the dark, He’s walking with us. Making sure that no harm comes our way as we make our way through, and that this time, we will get to where was intended because (as long as we let Him lead) He will guide us to it. Amen!
