I joined a writing group at church recently and it’s the first time I’m embracing / acknowledging that I enjoy expressing myself with words. During each meet, we have 20 minutes to write something based on that week’s sermon. Here’s what I wrote based on Gen. 22: 1-8. It’s a rough cut, and I choose not to rewrite it because #ProgressNotPerfection
Because I’m human
I’m confident in my knowledge of how the world works
I’m sure that if I add 2 and 5, I’ll get 7
I trust in my abilities and look to make my own way
Jesus take the wheel, I say
But I’m on the passenger side steering mine
Because I’m human, I forget that I have limitations
Limitations that the one who created me doesn’t
When He asks me to trust Him, it’s because
He sees things from His seated position that not even the peak of the highest mountains can show me
When He takes 2 and 5, they can feed multitudes
The end of my limitations is where His possibilities begin
Because I’m human, I find solace in my comforts
But even that’s not guaranteed
The only thing that is guaranteed is the peace I have in God because I trust Him
That means letting go of my steering wheel, and fully embracing our journey together
And knowing that it will always be for my good.
