A while ago, someone offered me a drink, and I declined, saying I wasn’t thirsty. The person started laughing and said, “You don’t drink because you’re thirsty”. Watching this video reminded me of that.
There’s this thing we do where in spite of whatever ongoing pain/discomfort we’re still about ‘chopping life’ and making jokes, and it amazes me to no end. It’s that ‘wetin man go do‘ attitude. The ‘I can’t come and kill myself‘ energy. So we numb it and find solace in our (dark) humor, food, busyness, entertainment, and shots.
Talking about feelings this way is not the most comfortable, especially in a society that prefers to unlook, but I’m glad Omah Lay made a song of it. Even the unlookers will listen (inception) and maybe it will eventually be normal to express ourselves fully without judgement.
